School Closing Policy
The school USUALLY (but not always!) follows the lead of the Pittsburgh Public Schools. If the Pittsburgh Public Schools are delayed or canceled, then Community Day will most likely be delayed or canceled. Watch the local news ( WPXI ), listen to the radio, or check the network websites for weather-related delays and closings (Community Day will now have its own closing/delay message.)
On rare occasions, Community Day will decide to hold school, with a delay, even though Pittsburgh Public Schools announce a closure. If your child takes a school bus provided by the school district in which you live and your district cancels due to weather, your district will not provide transportation to Community Day. You will then be responsible for bringing your child to school. In this event, notification will be made in the following ways:
- AlertNow, which includes telephone calls and emails
- Local news station ( WPXI ) and their associated website
Absences will be excused for children who are unable to attend due to a hardship in transportation. Remember that a "safety first" approach should always be your first consideration regarding inclement weather and your decision as to whether or not to attempt to get to school.
