Community Day School is committed to helping families take ownership of their Jewish lives and journeys. We are here to provide support and resources for children and families to feel proud of their Jewish selves in whatever way they relate to Judaism.
The mission of the Community and Family Engagement opportunities is to engage, connect, and empower families at CDS and within the greater Pittsburgh community in order to encourage exploration of Jewish identity, create a more vibrant Jewish community, and inspire the next generation of Jewish leaders.
YOU are the reason our community is special; we want to center the development of our programs not solely based on the calendar but around YOU.

Community partner spotlight
The values and lessons taught on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at CDS lay a foundation for learning both in and out of the classroom throughout the year for students and families. Each month, we will spotlight the organizations CDS worked with for MLK Day and give you options on how to engage in their work that best suits your family.
This month we are spotlighting Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse:
- Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is a non-profit that inspires creativity, conservation, and community engagement through reuse.
- They operate a non-traditional art supply shop located at the intersection of Wilkinsburg, Homewood, and Point Breeze, where people can donate used art and craft supplies, as well as shop for these unique items all in the same location.
- They also facilitate hands-on creative programming that educates the public about the benefits of reuse for the environment, community, and self.
- They see reuse as a vehicle for boosting self-confidence, learning new skills, and creating opportunity for all.
