How To Be A Mensch Flyer

Session 1: Head Space: Time to Chill ( Self-Care and Mindfulness)
January 30, 2022

The world is in constant motion, and so are we. Practicing mindfulness reminds us to slow down and focus, important skills for tweens. But have you ever thought about mindfulness as a Jewish thing? Join CDS educator Elke Goldblum (she/ her ) as we investigate the ways to practice Jewish mindfulness.

Session 2: Use Your Voice ( Words Matter: Saying it Right)
February 27, 2022

Learn how to be an advocate, an upstander, and how to lead with intention. Councilperson Erika Strassburger (she/ her) leads Pittsburgh City Council as the District 8 representative and was the first woman ever elected to this seat. She will teach participants how to follow their passion, advocate for change, and will give best practices on how to contact government officials.

Session 3: Get with the Giving (Tzedakah and Philanthropy)
March 27, 2022

Tzedakah is the Jewish tradition of giving money to those in need. Join PJ Library, CDS, and special guest Rabbi Ron Symons (he/him/his) as we explore tzedakah and why it matters. Through activities and conversation we will explore the act of giving and question whether money can buy happiness … if you give it away.

Session 4: S’more Learning and Fun ( Useful Skills, S’mores and Celebration)
May 15, 2022

Participants will learn useful skills in outdoor adventure with Venture Outdoors. They will learn how to make a campfire using a pie tin and other unique materials. We would love to invite families for a celebratory program that includes s’mores and other activities.
