In addition to Music as part of our curriculum, students in Grades 3-8 may also participate in Instrumental Music (Band). Being involved in a school band program helps to foster a lifelong appreciation of music and group-playing encourages unity and a spirit of cooperation.

Instrumental Music is taught every Thursday.  For Grades 3-5, the class period rotates so that students don’t miss the same academic class each week; it will be held this year on Thursdays during periods 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9. For Grades 6-8, Band occurs during the 10th Period Exploratory, and students must sign up for  a year-long commitment to the Middle School Band.

Julie Harris directs our Band program. She is a certified music instructor with degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne University. Please feel free to contact her at 412-521-7911 with any questions.

At Community Day School our children could take advantage of the smaller class sizes, increased individual attention from their teachers, and the chance to excel even further in their studies. In addition, receiving a rigorous education in Jewish culture and history will serve only to strengthen their sense of themselves as Jews, which is needed more and more in today’s world.
