Avi Baran Munro, Ed.M., Head of School

Community Day School’s mission is to deliver a joyful, innovative education that empowers children to become accomplished learners and compassionate upstanders who are committed to Jewish life and to creating a better world.

Are you with me on this mission? If you’re reading this, I am guessing that you are! So I will let you in on a little secret—our mission costs money!

Here’s how you can help:

RIGHT NOW — Release the resources! There are $340,000 in matching funds waiting to be leveraged right now. Yes, there are foundations that are eager to write big checks to fund key sustainability areas core to our mission. Are you already a supporter? They want to match your increase! Eager to be a new supporter? Your dollars will release theirs!

Interested in learning more? Let’s talk!

ANNUALLY — If you pay tax in Pennsylvania you may be eligible to earmark your state tax dollars for scholarships for CDS students. Imagine seeing your dollars growing to 10 times their value! Let’s talk!

FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN — Another way to reach deep into the future is through legacy giving. Costs you nothing now! We proudly participate with our Federation in the Harold Grinspoon Foundation Life and Legacy program and are now in year two of a robust legacy giving program. Thanks to so many of you, we surpassed expected goals two years in a row, and there are now more than 50 new legacy commitments securing our future.

Want to be part of this movement? This is easy to do—simply leave a heartfelt legacy in your will, trust, retirement account, or life insurance policy today—so that CDS can thrive in the heart of our city tomorrow. Let’s talk!

FOREVER — We are growing endowment funds so that CDS will always be at the center of a progressive, dynamic, and diverse Pittsburgh Jewish community. Endowment funds guarantee a secure and reliable source of annual revenue to keep CDS affordable, enable investment in  exceptional quality staff and program, and ensure that our beautiful campus and buildings are solid for another 100 years and beyond. Let’s talk!

It is nice but not realistic to imagine that we can cover the cost of an excellent Jewish day school education through tuition alone.

We believe we have what it takes to be the best school in Pittsburgh, and in the country (Jewish or not!), and we aim to welcome the widest diversity of Jewish children who can learn with us.

You can fund this vision.

Shabbat Shalom,

One Year Later: Remember, Repair, Together

The end of October will never be as it was before. And neither will we. No matter where we were on October 27, 2018, everything that came before and everything that followed and will follow, is punctuated by this enormous, unforgettable, and irreparable tear in the fabric of our lives.
