Middle School Sports

Students in a basketball team huddle

Middle School sports are an integral part of life at CDS, with almost 90% of students choosing to join a team. Participation in athletics helps our students to develop positive physical, mental, and social skills. The Middle School program consists of a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team for some sports, while others consist of a single team. Our teams are matched against other private, parochial, and charter schools for games and meets throughout the school year.

CDS Interscholastic sports include:

  • Cross Country
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Track
  • Ultimate Frisbee

I am most proud that our coaches teach a mindful attitude here at CDS. We don't always have a winning season, but we do develop winners. We always don't agree with the refs' calls, but we understand they are human. I believe in the value of sport in developing character, and CDS sports is a great place for that development to happen.

- Bob Helfer, Athletic Director

Teams practice and compete on our beautiful multi-purpose athletic field or in our gymnasium. CDS has a "no cut" policy, which means that any student who attends, practices, and fully participates is welcome on the team. Playing time is determined by each coach, with every effort made to give all athletes game experience; our focus is on teamwork and effort.

No matter which sports CDS students pursue, they benefit from heightened personal integrity, good sportsmanship, self-discipline, perseverance, self-confidence, an appreciation for competition, humility in loss, and the pride of a well-earned win.
