School Guidance Counselor

Qualifications:

• Must have or be working toward either a PA Department of Education certificate for Elementary and Secondary School Counselor or School Psychologist.
• Master’s degree required. 
• Proven leader and team player who inspires others.
• Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Reports to: Head of Academic and Emotional Services

Our School Guidance Counselor will:

• Promote understanding of developmental expectations of children with diverse characteristics, cultures, linguistic, and economic backgrounds.
• Consult and collaborate with teachers and outside health professionals towards supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. 
• Improve academic achievement by conducting observations and academic assessments that inform interventions which improve student outcomes.
• Promote strategies that facilitate effective management of student and classroom behavior.
• Assist school teams in monitoring student progress through the collection and interpretation of student and classroom data.
• Promote strategies that support positive student behavior and mental health practices in resolving individual, group, and system-level challenges in student behavior and mental health related areas.
• Promote a safe, supportive learning environment by providing crisis prevention, intervention, and postvention services, as needed, along with consultation and direct services to promote social-emotional functioning and learning for students with or without disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
• Strengthen family-school partnerships by providing support to families' understanding of their child's learning and mental health needs while taking into account their diverse characteristics, cultures, and linguistic backgrounds, as well as providing families with referrals to outside professional resources.
• Participate in school-wide assessment and accountability of student academic and behavioral achievement by generating, interpreting, and progress monitoring useful student and school-wide data. 
• Participate in and facilitate parent meetings as needed. 
• Participate in IGP (Individual Growth Plan) planning and implementation. 
• Provide recommendations and guidance towards maintaining and uplifting student and staff morale. 
• Provide and recommend professional development for staff. 
• Provide short-term individual and group guidance related to academic and social-emotional development, including peer mediation and bullying prevention.
• Refer staff or parents to resources that can provide ongoing guidance/counseling if warranted.
• Manage our “Destination High School” program, coordinating guidance and transition services for students as they matriculate through Community Day School and on to high school.
• Play an active role in the planning for, and response to, crisis situations.
• Other duties as assigned

Daily substitute teachers for all grades and subjects are also needed. These positions require elementary certifications for Lower School general studies and secondary certifications in major subject area for Middle School, as well as a minimum of two years of teaching experience.

Who are we?

How can you contribute?

Community Day School is looking for individuals who will staff our daily Extended Day Programs.  We offer both Early Childhood (ages 3-5) and Kindergarten-5th grade programs.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Supervising student activities indoors and outdoors.
• Monitoring student behavior.
• Assisting with homework as needed.
• Signing students in and out of extended day and walking them to the door when their ride arrives. 
• Communicating with families, the Extended Day Coordinator and/or the Head of Lower School and Early Childhood as needed.  
• Understanding all safety procedures of CDS and having the ability to lead the participants in the event of an emergency.
• Meeting all CDS standards for professionalism in conduct and appearance at all times.

All offers will be contingent upon satisfactory references, clearances under Act 33 and 34 and Federal Criminal History Record, as well as proof of COVID19 full vaccination status and a negative TB test result no more than three months old.

Job Type: Part-time

Schedule:

• August 23, 2022 to June 9, 2023 
• Monday through Thursday, 3:35 to 6 p.m.
• Fridays, 2:35 to 5 p.m., except November 11 through February 10 when the program ends at 4 p.m. because of the start of Shabbat
• We are looking for candidates who are interested in working anywhere from 2-5 days per week.  

Salary:  $40/day
