This is a special milestone in the history of CDS, as we embark on a year-long celebration of our 50th anniversary.

The 2021-2022 academic year will provide the opportunity to honor our past, celebrate who we are today, and inspire what lies ahead for our future.

The journey began in 1972, when a group of parents first organized Community Day School as a non-denominational Jewish day school, located in the old Hebrew Institute building at the corner of Forbes and Denniston avenues in Squirrel Hill. We remain in awe of the vision, dedication, and hard work of these leaders, who unknowingly shaped the landscape of Pittsburgh's Jewish community for generations to come.

Today, CDS is a thriving academic institution with nearly 300 students in Early Childhood through Grade 8. Although our expanded campus is now just a mile away from where we started, we have traveled far from our humble origins five decades ago. Every bold step of the way, we've always remained true to the hopes and dreams of our founders to build a school rooted in Jewish values and committed to academic excellence and meeting the individual needs of the children and families we serve.

We have been trusted with a great treasure, legacy, and responsibility. And we are deeply grateful and proud to have our amazing families, devoted community, and exceptional staff to help us chart the course of our next 50 years together.

50th Celebration Campaign: Give Generously

We are reaching out to our beloved community to invest in Community Day School and ensure we are poised to provide the best educational journey for our students well into the future. To make this vision a reality, our 50th Celebration Campaign is now underway.

We are seeking 10 donors who will invest $50,000 each in the growth and support of CDS, raising a total of $500,000. We ask you to partner with us by giving a meaningful leadership gift, generating critical funds for sustaining our school’s educational excellence and allowing us to innovate to meet our changing needs.

We are grateful for the commitment of the following 50th Celebration Campaign $50,000 donors:

Ken Levin and Marcie Mitre
Michael and caryl Levin
Paul Munro and Avi Baran Munro
Bruce and Jane Rollman
Derek Smith and Nicole Evoy
Gary and nancy Tuckfelt
Mark and Bari Weinberger

Join these donors and lead the way for the future of CDS and the Pittsburgh Jewish community.

We are happy to answer questions, give tours, and share our long-term vision. Together we will ensure that our current and future students are given the best of tools to become the successful Jewish leaders of tomorrow.
