Community Day School Love the learning, Live the Values

Believe in the transformational power of a CDS education

Community Day School is the singular co-ed, independent Jewish day school in Pittsburgh. For nearly half a century, we have educated thousands of children to become critical thinkers, inspired learners, confident Jews, and compassionate leaders.

Built on a foundation of Jewish values and tradition, CDS is a forward-thinking school focused on academic excellence. As the only school of our kind in western Pennsylvania, we play a critical role in the vitality of Jewish Pittsburgh and the region at large, transforming the lives of our students today and for generations to come.

This is an urgent and exciting moment for CDS.

We do not ask for donations lightly. We have been fiscally responsible and weathered challenging economic times, working always for the good of our students and a sustainable future.  And it's working. CDS families are overwhelmingly happy because—by every measure—their children are developing the knowledge, skills, and families they need to thrive and succeed. It all happens within the enfold of a joyous, inclusive, and vibrant Jewish community. In true testament to their belief in our mission and strong desire to give back, nearly 100% of CDS parents made a gift to our Annual Campaign in the recent fiscal year.

You may ask, "Why give?" Doesn't tuition cover all of Community Day School's operating expenses?" The simple answer is, "No."

Excellence has a high price, and in the interest of affordability, the cost of educating one student at CDS exceeds even our full tuition. In contrast to most independent schools and in reflection of our values, CDS is also committed to offering every Jewish child an outstanding education regardless of financial means.

Since tuition alone does not balance our budget, we depend on vital support from the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, state educational improvement tax credits, and the generosity of people like you—and the generous donors below—to meet the shortfall.
