Avi Baran Munro - Head of School 

Prior to becoming CDS Head of School in 2004, Avi Baran Munro spent six years as Curriculum Coordinator and Head of Lower School at Community Day School and 10 years teaching and supervising student-teachers at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education. At Pittsburgh’s Jewish Education Institute, she coordinated and offered professional development for Pittsburgh’s Jewish educators.

 

Avi Munro is a graduate of Brown University, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the University of California, San Diego. She also holds Pennsylvania state certification in Secondary English.  

 

As a graduate of the very first Solomon Schechter Day School and parent of four Community Day School graduates, she is deeply committed to high quality, Jewish day school education.

 

Tzippy Mazer - Head of Lower School and Hebrew/Jewish Studies

Tzippy Mazer was appointed Head of Hebrew and Jewish Studies in 2004, but has been with Community Day School for more than 30 years, first joining CDS as a teacher in 1976. Mrs. Mazer assumed the title of Head of Lower School in 2014. Mrs. Mazer holds a B.S. and M.A. in Elementary and Special Education from Duquesne University.

 

Mark Minkus - Head of Intermediate School and Middle School

Mark Minkus was appointed Head of Middle School in June 2012. He comes to Community Day School with more than 20 years experience as Head of School at an independent, religious day school. He has a bachelor's degree in Education from Slippery Rock University and a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College. For the last two decades, Mr. Minkus has helped teachers grow through professional development and challenged students to reach their potential through high expectations and the implementation of a rigorous curriculum.
