Summer Reading

23-24 Reading Lists

The amount of free reading done outside of school is linked to growth in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and verbal fluency. Students who read independently become better readers, score higher on achievement tests in all subject areas, and have greater content knowledge than those who do not. Plus, reading is fun! It allows children to escape into another world, or learn about new people, places, and ideas, all of which can capture a child's imagination and reward even the most reluctant readers. On your mark ... get set ... read this summer!

We also put together a 2023 Summer Reading List just for parents. We asked the CDS faculty and staff to recommend a favorite book—or a book sitting on their nightstand they hope to read over the summer. We can’t wait to do our own summer reading!
